In 2015 Lenovo launched the Moto X Style and Moto X Play handsets while this year, 2016, instead the line has been re-branded as the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. However, there is now some suggestion that there may be a third member of the family which re-vives the "Play" moniker as the Moto Z Play. The info comes via Indian import tracker Zauba - this database often shows test unit handsets being shipped into India for testing prior to launch, and has previously revealed info on multiple Samsung handsets. Such appearances also often closely shadow a release, so it could mean an announcement is very close.
In this case, the listing describes a Motorola Vertex with a 5.5in display - the Vertex name was previously used as a codename for the Moto X Play, though both that model and the current Moto Z family have 5.5in displays. A new model having a 5.5in display seems sensible though, as it will ensure compatibility with the MotoMod modular accessories. We are left wondering, however, what different features a Moto Z Play might have, the Moto X Play had a larger battery, a slightly more durable design, and a higher-rated camera sensor; all these features except the rugged build are catered to by the Moto Z Force.
Another source from a few weeks back (which passed us by!) is some Geekbench benchmark results where the handset showed a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset and 3GB of RAM, making it lower spec than the current Moto Z models. Additionally, there are rumours of a 1080p display resolution on an AMOLED display, 16MP camera, and a 3,500mAh battery, making us think this may be a cheaper, mid-range Moto Z model with the same modularity features as the rest of the range.
