We already knew that Samsung was preparing a new A-series trio for 2018; the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, and Galaxy A7. However, the phones are now starting to appear in test listings and benchmarks, with the Galaxy A5 model popping up in the html5test browser benchmarking suite.
The test results reveal that the handset will pack an Exynos 7885 processor, Bluetooth 5.0, and one of Samsung's edge-to-edge 18:9 Super AMOLED Infinity Display panels - the kind we've seen on the firm's flagships in 2017. The confirmed resolution is 412 x 816 pixels, which shows the 18:9 aspect ratio associated with the Infinity Display.
The use of such a panel would introduce what is currently a popular flagship feature to mid-range phones for the first time, meaning we're likely goingto see this becoming a standard phone feature moving forward. It would also likely mean that, just as with the flagships which already use edge-to-edge screens, the fingerprint scanner would move to the rear panel to allow a button-less front.
The Galaxy A series 2018 reboot is expected to arrive early in the new year, ahead of the Galaxy S9 flagship launch.
