After Google threw its toys out the pram, removing YouTube from Amazon Fire devices, Amazon has given up and agreed to start selling Chromecast and Apple TV devices.
Up to now, you could not buy Google’s Chromecast via Amazon. Nor Apple’s Apple TV. And the reason for this was simple: both products compete directly with Amazon’s own line of products, so Amazon blocked them from its store.
The beef between Amazon and Google reached fever pitch last week when Google confirmed it would begin blocking YouTube access on Amazon’s Fire TV devices. A move that has now caused Amazon to reconsider its position.
An Amazon representative told CNET that the Apple TV and Chromecast will re-appear on Amazon’s shopping site ASAP. Listings for Google’s Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra, as well as Apple TV and Apple TV 4K are now showing up.
And the reason for this change of heart? Simple: Amazon wants Google to NOT block YouTube access to its products. Amazon has essentially extended an olive branch to Google in a bid to soften relations between the two companies.
Apple, likely completely unaware of what’s been happening, has also benefited from this change of heart as well.
Whether this will be enough to stop Google from blocking YouTube access for Amazon’s Fire TV products remains to be seen. But one thing is definitely sure: if it does block access, it will be Google that will look like the bad guy, not Amazon.
