The Surface Pro is one of our favourite on-the-go-work-machines. It looks great, performs great, and features some seriously cool software in the form of Windows 10. You can get A LOT done with a Surface Pro machine, basically.
But you can no do more, thanks to the inclusion of a new model that supports CAT 9 LTE Advanced for on the go, super-fast internet. This means no more tethering to your phone, no more searching for coffee shops, and no more free, public access WiFi.
Yes, with LTE included, the Surface Pro is now a true on the go working machine, a machine that will go toe-to-toe with anything from Apple.
The Surface Pro with LTE is official, but it won’t be available to buy until December. How much will it cost? Microsoft hasn’t said yet, but the company did confirm that the Surface Pro with LTE will be positioned as a business tool, meaning it will only be sold through Microsoft’s business channels.
Again, this is a bit odd, given just how popular LTE on laptops is with consumers these days. I would almost certainly buy a laptop with LTE support over one that didn’t have it, for instance, but the fact that Microsoft is going to make it hard to get this one could well push me into Google’s arms.
I need a new laptop, you see, and I’m what you’d call a floating voter, as I am open using either a Mac, a Windows machine, and also a Chromebook, providing the price/feature-set is right.
I do really like Microsoft’s Surface line of products, but I don’t like the fact that it is trying to make this LTE model exclusive to business users. That just seems silly, especially given how the traditional lines between consumer and business user have blurred in recent years.
More news on the LTE Surface Pro as well get it.
If you're interested in a Surface machine, Microsoft ALWAYS has offers running on them inside its web store.
