The hottest flagship of 2017 is the iPhone X. Notice we didn’t say “the best flagship.” whatever your thoughts about the iPhone X, there’s no denying it's the most eagerly-awaited and hyped phone of the season. Apple’s finally but an edge-to-edge display on the iPhone and has introduced its brand new Face ID tech. But there are several good alternatives to the iPhone X on the Android front–one of them being the LG V30. This flagship is, frankly, beautiful looking and packs quite a good punch in the spec department. Let’s take a look at both phones to see how they compare.

And here are the specs for the LG V30:

- Dimensions: 151.7mm x 75.4 mm x 7.4 mm
- Weight: 158 grams

- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Processors: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835
- Front camera: 5 MP
- Rear camera: Dual Lens 16 MP telephoto and 13MP wide-angle
- Battery: 3300 mAh, Wireless charging
Both phones come in 64GB versions, but only the iPhone X also offers a 256GB model. However, the V30 features microSD expandable storage that takes cards up to a whopping 2TB, potentially giving the phone over EIGHT TIMES the storage the iPhone X could ever have.
Moving on to the RAM, the LG V30 offers 25% more than the iPhone X at 4GB versus 3GB. But sorry, Android fans, even with all that RAM, the V30 can’t compete in the speed department against the iPhone X. Why? Because the iPhone X sports Apple’s new A11 Bionic chip with its neural engine. It can run processing circles around anything Qualcomm can currently produce. In short, the iPhone X is MUCH, MUCH more powerful than the V30 in the CPU department.
iPhone X vs LG V30: Display & Design
Both of the flagships feature edge-to-edge displays. The V30’s display is a little bigger at 6in and it also has a higher resolution at 2880x1440 at 537 ppi. Compare that to the iPhone X’s 5.8in display with a 2436x1125 resolution at 458 ppi. Obviously, we like the V30’s display better from an aesthetic perspective–mainly because we’re not huge fans of the upper notch cutout on the iPhone X’s display. Yet the iPhone X’s display offers something special: it features a true tone panel, which means it adjusts to match the warmth of the color temperature in the room, making it easier on the eyes. The V30 doesn’t offer that.
iPhone X vs LG V30: Battery
The V30 has the bigger battery at 3300 mAh, but each phone should last around the same amount of time in average daily use. Both phones also feature wireless charging, which is nice as the tech gains more adoption and wireless charging pads can be founding more places.
iPhone X vs LG V30: Camera
As far as front cameras go, the iPhone X beats the V30 with its 7MP front camera (the V30’s is only 5MP). And to be honest, only 5MP for your front selfie cam in this day and age is a bit cheap. However, the V30 strikes back in a big way when we get to the rear camera. Both phones feature dual lens modules, but the V30 offers more megapixels at 16MP for the telephoto lens and 13MP for the wide angle lens. The iPhone X offers 12MP lenses in both its telephoto and wide-angle. While both rear cameras are attractive at those specs, the V30 edges out here. Oh, and both also shoot 4K video.
iPhone X vs LG V30: Cost & Verdict
Unlocked the LG V30 will cost £799. The iPhone X will cost £999 (64GB) and £1149 (256GB). Look, we love the new iPhone X, but if you aren’t married to one OS over the other (Android vs iOS) and don’t need the absolute fastest smartphone processor on the market (Apple’s A11) then it’s hard to justify the much higher price tag of the iPhone X over the price of the V30. For that lower price, you get a bigger display, a design that is probably a bit sexier, and a better rear camera system.
