Google ditched the Nexus 6 and Nexus 5X from its official Android 9 Pie update roadmap.
But that hasn’t stopped the developer community from stepping in to create a working ROM for the handsets.
As usual, Nexus phones can (and do) live on well past their official end-of-life within Google’s official ecosystem.
Nexus PieX – The ROM You Need
The update for the Nexus 5X – known as Nexus PieX – was built by a developer that goes by the name of Argraur.
The working Nexus 6 update was built by a developer called Myself5 with a little help from the CarbonROM team.
Both updates work and are available for download via XDA Developers. Or, if you prefer, you can use the links below:

Things To Keep In Mind
These are ROMS, so they’re not 100% final. They work mostly, however, with just a few grumbles present.
So what are those grumbles? On the CarbonBeta ROM encryption isn’t working and mobile network connectivity can be a little sketchy.
On Nexus PieX, SafetyNet and VoLTE aren’t working. But everything else, including Google Apps and the camera app, is 100% functional.
The PieX update is the more stable of the two, but both work and will be more than adequate for most users.
As always: these are unofficial ROMS, so proceed at your own risk!
Happy hunting!
