My iPhone 8’s battery, for want of a better word, is rubbish. And I don’t use that word lightly… but is Siri the issue?

I’ve been rocking the iPhone 8 for a good few weeks now. Prior to this, I was using the Pixel 2, but I fancied a change and I knew I had an iPhone 8 collecting dust in my drawer.

Everything was going smoothly until the latest iOS update, which, for some reason, has completely RUINED the iPhone 8’s battery life.

It also STILL randomly reboots and I STILL have no idea why it does this. This, along with its wonky battery life, was the reason I gave it such a poor review last year.

Fast forward almost 12 months, and not much has changed. But this time, I decided to do a little digging to see what I could find.

Inside the Battery Health application, which is bundled in the settings menu, I discovered, to my shock, that Siri was responsible for around 48% of my battery drain.

And the reason this is off is that I never use Siri. Like, ever!

In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I even activated it.

And yet, for some unforeseen reason, the greedy git is eating almost half my battery’s power.

The Solution To iPhone 8 Battery Woes?

Simple: KILL Siri.

Go to settings and turn it off.

I never used Siri anyway, so it wasn’t like I was going to miss it.

I did this early today and already things seem to be better. I’ll update this piece tomorrow, once I have more data.

But if your iPhone 8 has been terrible for battery life recently, have a look at your battery settings and see what’s eating all the power.

I’ll bet you five quid its Siri.

Apple is probably aware of this too, so fingers crossed it’ll include a software patch that fixes this issue.

As for the random shutdowns and reboots, I’m still at a loss as to what’s causing these.

For the record, the iPhone 8 is the buggiest iPhone I have ever tested. It feels and runs like a prototype handset.

I don’t know what the hell happened with this phone, but it’s been nothing but problems since I first got it.
