Apple's limited the range of colours for the iPhone 8 (and iPhone X), so what's left to choose from?

You might have heard; Apple's just launched three new iPhones; the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the 10th anniversary iPhone X. The latter isn't actually available yet, and if analysts are correct won't be available in big numbers until next year, as Apple's having supply issues due to a component bottleneck - basically it's made its fancy pants technology a bit too fancy to the extent it's actually having trouble making some of the high-end parts in any sizeable quantity.

Anyhow, people who've been buying iPhones in recent years will no doubt be used to a couple of things being on the cards. One, Apple usually keeps the number of phones it offers down to a small number; the last gen and the current gen, most often. And two, Apple has in the last few years built up an ever larger portfolio of colors for users to choose from.

Both those things have gone out the window this time around.

On the first point, Apple now has a concurrent stable of FIVE different series of iPhones on sale at the same time; the iPhone X, iPhone 8 series, iPhone 7 series, iPhone 6s series, and the iPhone SE - throw on the Plus models of the series which have them and you're looking at EIGHT individual iPhone models on sale at once. Quite a choice.

On the second point, the real subject of this article, Apple's previous generations peaked with offering the five colors; Silver/Space Grey, Black, Jet Black (Gloss), Gold, Rose Gold.

That's no longer the case with the iPhone 8; it's been whittled down to a much more limited range of only three colors.

Silver, Space Grey, and Gold.

But here's the thing, that Gold is really more of a Rose Gold even if it isn't described as such, meanwhile the Space Grey is practically Black. So in essence, Gold is gone, your options are basically Black, Silver, or Rose Gold.

What could be happening, however, is Apple might be holding a few colours back to roll out later. After all, that is what happened with Jet Black on the iPhone 7. We wouldn't hold our breath, mind you.

The iPhone X will apparently be even more limited, only coming in either Space Grey or Silver.

The iPhone 8 is available from £699, while the iPhone 8 Plus starts from £799.

Another option you should probably consider before pulling the trigger on a brand new iPhone is going the reconditioned route. I have personally bought several reconditioned iPhones over the years and I have been more than happy with the results.

Yes, these iPhones are used, but because they’re reconditioned you wouldn’t actually be able to tell. Going this route means you can pick up, say, and iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, for around 40% less or 60% less than a brand new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

And because its an Apple phone, you will get software support for years to come and this, along with the excellent performance of Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, makes going the reconditioned route a very appealing way of acquiring an iPhone.

If you’re in the US, you should definitely check out Verizon’s MANY, MANY deals for the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. There are simply too many options to list here, but if you click through and have a look around, you're sure to find something that suits your budget
