Spotify music streaming to land on the Apple Watch this summer

A report from MacRumors claims that an official Spotify music streaming app may be arriving for the Apple Watch and it could be revealed at Apple's WWDC 2018 - Worldwide Developer's Conference - event in June this year.

The report adds that the information comes from "an anonymous and unverified tipster," who was allegedly involved in developing the app. So it could be bunk, but on the other hand the move would certainly make sense for both Apple itself and Spotify.

The source  goes on to say that Apple will use the new Spotify app as a main example during its WWDC 2018 presentations to demonstrate the StreamKit development framework - this kit allows Apple Watches with cellular connectivity to receive push notifications direct from third-party apps with no need to tether to an iPhone handset.

Certainly the ability to stream music straight to your wrist with the world's most popular music streaming service will have a significant pull.

It's thought the new push notifications features will be introduced with watchOS 5. Apple's WWDC 2018 will begin on June 4 and lasts about a week.
