It’s been a long wait for Galaxy S7 users, but pretty soon they will be up and running with Android 7 Nougat.

Android 7 Nougat was originally expected to drop for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 EDGE before the close of 2016.

This obviously didn’t happen and plenty of users have been wondering what happened to the update.

Google did, after all, release Android Nougat a good long while back. The fact that a company of Samsung’s size and capabilities cannot do better than this with updates is rather embarrassing, though I suspect Samsung does not view Android updates as a high priority.

Thankfully, the company has FINALLY gotten around to pushing out the update. According to reports from inside Samsung, the Android Nougat update will land in January.

The software is currently in testing by those enrolled in Samsung’s beta program. What’s more, Samsung has now notified those in the program that beta testing will conclude on December 31. That means the gold-standard software is ready for shipping.

“Samsung can’t offer a firm rollout date as it’s not actually in charge of update releases,” notes BGR. “Carrier partners also have to test and green light the new software before it can be sent your way.”

This means unless you’re running an unlocked, non-carrier version of the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 EDGE you could be in for a slightly longer wait, as networks tend to take an AGE certifying updates.
The good news, however, is that if you’re running an unlocked Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 EDGE you will likely be running the software before the end of next month.
