Is O2 any good? Should you make the switch? Let’s look at the data, pros and cons…

O2 logo

O2 is one of the oldest and most well-known phone networks in the UK.

O2 was the first to get the iPhone way back when, and since losing this exclusivity it has been working on developing over USPs.

One of the most significant and useful of which is free access to over 15,000 WiFi hotspots throughout the country.

But what about the network’s performance? Let’s take a look at the data to find out more…

O2 Network Coverage

O2’s coverage is pretty impressive, but it’s not quite up there with EE. O2 has 98% coverage, whereas EE boasts 99%. It’s close, but EE takes this round, marginally.

O2 4G Coverage

O2’s 4G network is excellent. The company has 99% coverage for 2G, 3G, and 4G across the UK.

On top of this, O2’s coverage also boasts 98% coverage indoors as well – and that is significant.

O2’s 4G is available in over 16,000 towns and cities in the UK, which includes:

Antrim, Bradford, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bridgend, Brighton, Burnley, Castleford, Coleraine, Coventry, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Leicester, Leigh, Liverpool, Livingston, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, London, Macclesfield, Newtownabbey, Nottingham, Nuneaton, Pontypool, Poole, Portsmouth, Reading, St Albans, Sittingbourne, Southampton and Tamworth.

O2 4G Download Speeds

According to OpenSignal data, O2 has one of the lowest 4G speeds.

It ranks bottom with just 15.16Mbps, whereas EE boasts a massively impressive 29.02Mbps

O2 is pretty decent when it comes to network latency, almost matching EE with 42.84ms, according to OpenSignal.

O2 4G Speed Test

O2 only managed 14.11Mbps, making it the slowest of the UK’s major networks.
