Nokia's back! Does the new Nokia 8 have the chops to dethrone the Galaxy S8 series?

In 2017 Samsung has stayed at the top of the pile in terms of the smartphone space. It commands the majority of global sales, which, to be clear, is not all flagships - a lot of those sales are made up of mid and lower end devices too. But, with that said, the brand is certainlty highly prominent, and the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note flagships sell like hot cakes.

Apple is just behind in the number two spot, followed by Huawei in third position. This is all according to data from IDC and TrendForce.

The latest  flagship models, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, have sold in huge numbers thanks to a compelling array of cutting-edge hardware wrapped in sleek design and some of the best display and camera tech available. It also has some of the best battery life too.

And now the Galaxy Note 8 has officially been unwrapped too. It's sure to command big sales going into 2018, although competition is hotting up from the likes of the Essential Phone (PH-1), iPhone 8, and Google Pixel 2; the latter two poised to launch in the coming weeks and months.

But recently, a former powerhouse of the industry has risen up again; Nokia. In truth, the firms name is being used as a branding exercise in partnership with HMD Global - HMD actually makes the phones, they just wear Nokia's label. Don't let that fool you into thinking the devices are sub-par, however, they most certainly are not. The Nokia spirit is alive and well, from the design, build, and aesthetic, right up to the reintroduction of Carl Zeiss camera hardware and Nokia OZO audio.

The key difference, unlike Nokia's of old, is that the new breed runs on Google's Android platform, meaning they have access to a vast catalogue of apps, games, and content right from the get-go.

So...the big question. How does the Nokia 8 compare to Samsung's Galaxy S8 series? We take a look at the specs below to find out.
