An alleged Nokia 8 flagship has leaked at CES, but all may not be as it seems

Update: Following widespread media reporting of the alleged Nokia 8 showcase at Qualcomm's CES stand, Qualcomm has issued an email to Nokiamob.net. The email, sent from Catherine Baker, Senior Manager of Public Relations at Qualcomm, says that although Qualcomm does not disclose details of reference designs, the reports that the device showcased at CES was a Nokia 8 handset are "not accurate."

"Our [Snapdragon] 835 demos were on our own reference design devices which we use to demo our latest Snapdragon SOC's every year," she adds.

For now we're going to take this at face value and accept the proposal that the leaked handsets were indeed simply reference devices rather than official Nokia kit. That said, in the back of our minds we are wondering if this is simply a case of PR damage control. It will be interesting to see if later on this turns out to be some kind of double bluff!

You can see the original story below, preserved for posterity.

A handset believed to be Nokia's flagship Android handset and dubbed the Nokia 8 has leaked online. The phone is expected to appear at MWC, but it seems Qualcomm showcased the handset at the CES expo, and even though photos were forbidden, someone sneakily snapped a few images and some video footage before leaking them out.

The reports say there will be two Nokia 8 models, one powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835, with 6GB of RAM and a Carl Zeiss 24MP camera with optical and electronic stabilisation. It'll have a 12MP front-facing camera, and 64GB or 128GB onboard storage with microSD support on top. The other edition will be slightly cheaper and use a Snapdragon 821 chip and 4GB of RAM, but camera specs are unknown.

You can pick up some awesome deals for Nokia Windows Phone on eBay right now and most of them can be upgraded to Windows 10, making them exceptionally good value.
