Apple WILL update its AirPod headphones in 2018, according to sources close to the company

Apple made a KILLING with its AirPods – even by Apple standards. Word on the street suggests Apple’s wearables business grew by as much as 70% last year, and a lot of that growth was down to the AirPods.

And we’ll be seeing a new pair launched in 2018, reports suggest, with better Siri integration and full on waterproofing – not that anyone would go swimming with AirPods in!

The new AirPods, which are suspected to be landing this year, will feature an updated chipset inside them. And if that wasn’t enough, you will be able to summon Siri simply by saying her name – no tapping required.

“The headphones, internally known as B288, will include an upgraded Apple-designed wireless chip for managing Bluetooth connections,” notes Bloomberg. "The first AirPods include a chip known as the W1, and Apple released the W2 with the Apple Watch last year.”

Apple’s first AirPods landed alongside the iPhone 7 and since then have been selling like crack cocaine ever since. People love them, reviewers love them. Everybody loves them, apparently, so, of course, Apple is doing a sequel.

The next big question, however, is this: will they cost the same or will Apple ramp up the price of them like it did with the iPhone X?

The AirPods, though a small device, have become a big earner for Apple, so the focus of the new pair will almost certainly be not to rock the boat. Apple will want big sales and you don’t do this by taking something and making it prohibitively expensive (like it did with the iPhone X).
Most likely, the AirPods will retail for the same price as the originals and, once they’re released, the original AirPods will be available at a discounted price.
