OnePlus has teamed up with designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac for a special edition OnePlus 5

OnePlus will apparently not be launching the previously rumoured OnePlus 5T and instead is going to focus on the OnePlus 6 for next year - but if you're interested in OnePlus 5 variants then another one has rocked up for European consumers dubbed the OnePlus 5 JCC+.

The OnePlus 5T was on the cards, unofficially, at one point during 2017, at least, according to the rumour mill, but the handset has now apparently been nixed in favour of a limited edition option.

The reason for this is pretty simple: a limited edition handset is less divisive to existing customers that already bought the OnePlus 5. It’s also less costly for OnePlus to develop – all it requires is some changes to the aesthetics of the handset, which is easily done.

So what's that name all about? Well, it's a Limited Edition model, meaning that when it's gone it's gone, and the JCC stands for the name of famous designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. This particular model has an etched rear panel with text written by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, while the power, volume, and sound keys are coloured in his signature blue, red, and yellow respectively.

In all other aspects the JCC+ Edition is exactly the same as the regular OnePlus 5, although this particular version only comes as an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. The price is also exactly the same as the regular edition at €559 or £499. The above product page also has some other tie-in merchandise including T-Shirts, bags, and hats.

OnePlus and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac himself spend a bit of time in the below video explaining their thoughts and ideas behind the collaboration on this Limited Edition model.

If you're interested you better grab one sharpish, as it's only available in limited quantities.
