Android TV now supports Google Assistant AI and voice control

Google is now trotting out Google Assistant support for Android TV. It's going to land on Nvidia Shield TV first - as in immediately - however, plans have been revealed that in the coming months you can expect Sony Bravia TVs loaded with the platform to get their own support for the voice AI assistant too.

Essentially, this will add all the powerful voice and content-related capabilities of Google Assistant to your Android TV-based goggle box. That means voice commands for playing content including movies, music, Youtube content, and TV shows. HBO Now and Netflix streaming services are also supported. The assistant will respond to direct commands to play content by name, for example, the Punisher TV show, but will also be able to use voice content searches if you want to, say, ask it to display all movies relating to sharks, or surfing.

Built-in music support includes Spotify, Youtube Music, Google Play Music, and Pandora.

It's not just tuned for entertainment, mind, Google Assistant will present you with a news feed on current events, and it's also plugged into you calendar, so you can check out your schedule on the big screen and from the comfort of your sofa. Google Assistant-enabled applications are also supported, including Google Express for online shopping via supported retailers.

Lastly, it'll allow you to control other connected smart home devices.
