The iPhone 8 WILL 100% feature wireless charging and it will also be waterproof, meaning no more pool-side accidents

The iPhone 8 will launch in just a few months, alongside the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s, apparently. We already know quite a bit about the handset, thanks to a steady stream of leaks, but the latest tidbit of information comes directly from one of Apple’s suppliers.

According to Wistron CEO Robert Hwang, the iPhone 8 will definitely feature wireless charging, a new feature strongly hinted at in rumours. Beyond this, Hwang continued, the iPhone 8 will also feature a waterproof chassis, meaning no more “expensive incidents” near bodies of water.

“Assembly process for the previous generations of [iPhones] have not changed much,” Hwang said, “though new features like waterproof and wireless charging now require some different testing, and waterproof function will alter the assembly process a bit.”

"Hwang added that Wistron is operating under the assumption that iPhone shipments in 2017 will check in higher than it did last year," notes BGR, "seemingly bolstering analyst projections regarding the iPhone 8 ushering in a massive refresh cycle."

Wistron is working on the iPhone 7s but it stands to reason that if the iPhone 7s has these features so too will the iPhone 8, which is the superior, flagship handset.

Broadcom is believed to be providing Apple with technical support for wireless charging on all 2017 iPhone launches. Another option is Energous – a firm who’s tech can charge a handset from up to 15 feet away.

The iPhone 8 will feature an edge-to-edge display, just like the Samsung Galaxy S8, but unlike that phone, Apple’s iPhone will apparently feature its Home/TouchID key built directly into the display.

The downside to this new type of technology is that when something goes wrong you’re kinda screwed. Plus, when you’re making as many units as Apple is, something is bound to go wrong on some units.

Apple’s quality control checks are astounding, the company examines everything with a fine, tooth-comb, but things will almost certainly go amiss – they always do with new technology.

Expect to pay $1000+ for the iPhone 8 when it arrives later on in 2017.
