Grab your memberberries, there’s more nostalgia on the horizon. This time it’s the turn of Nintendo’s classic SNES console, which, like the NES Classic, is being rebooted as the Nintendo SNES Classic later on this year.

The SNES was arguably one of Nintendo’s best consoles ever. I owned one back in the day, as well as an N64, which I also loved, so it makes sense Nintendo would do a re-issue of the system in 2017. Even more so when you consider how popular the NES Classic was.

Sources confirmed to EuroGamer that Nintendo will indeed release the SNES Classic during the latter part of 2017, meaning it’ll be here just in time for the holiday season.

The release of the SNES Classic is – apparently – why the Nintendo NES Classic was discontinued. Nintendo knew this newer (and better) nostalgia-console was coming and decided to keep the space clear for the SNES later on this year.

“Like the NES mini,” notes GEEK, “the SNES mini will be a plug and play device that comes pre-installed with a number of games. The NES mini came with 30 titles. Hopefully, the SNES mini will contain a great deal more. If Nintendo does release this system, we’ll hopefully see titles like Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy III, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and many more.”

Nintendo is clearly on to a winning formula here, as the NES Classic proved. The units will be cost effective to produce and yield plenty of profits; this is likely what prompted the re-issue of the SNES Classic.

In 2018, if everything continues as-is, we’ll see the N64 re-issued. Then, well… it’ll be the turn of the GameCube?

You can, of course, still buy working N64 units on eBay. 

Personally, I cannot wait for the N64 to be rebooted, as it was my favourite Nintendo console of all time.
