LG appears to be working on its own flexible and folding OLED display device, according to new patent filings

With all the talk of the Samsung Galaxy X, it's no surprise that LG has its own flexible OLED devices in the works too. We've known from reports for some time that, just like Samsung, LG has been working on flexible OLED technology; adaptable folding form factor phones and hybrid devices are the next logical and inevitable step for the mobile space.

LG has now patented a folding device which seems very similar to the Samsung folding design we also saw recently - it is as smartphone sized device which unfolds along one vertical edge into a small tablet form factor. The patent appears to show a continuous display on front and back panels of the phone which forms the tablet display when unfolded, however, a central section on the "hinge" appears to fill the role of a control bar for multimedia applications and, possibly, a notification bar.

The design also incorporates a camera with flash module, and LG's now familiar power, fingerprint scanner, and volume rocker combination. The patent also appears to show a media viewing mode where it is propped up like a tent, similar to some transforming tablet/notebook hybrids.
