Amazon unveils revamped Amazon Fire TV with 4K and HDR

Hot on the heels of its freshly announced Amazon Echo, Amazon Echo Plus, and Amazon Echo Spot, Amazon has just revelead another new edition of one of its popular products - Amazon Fire TV. The new edition, which is simply called Amazon Fire TV once again, has been updated with Amazon Alexa built-in, as well as support for Dolby Atmos, and enhanced image quality via support for 4K and HDR.

Amazon is also keeping the price nice and attractive, at a relatively affordable $69.99.

The actual hardware itself has undergone a complete ground-up rebuild. It's not a hockey puck anymore, instead it's a compact plug-in device similar to the Google Chromecast; although much more angular. It features a built-in HDMI cable but does need to be connected to power at the wall.

Inside, the onboard processor has been upgraded to a new Amlogic quad-core CPU with four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz. It also makes use of a Mali-450 MP3 GPU, as well as 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Not only is this faster than its predecessor overall, but it enables 4K 60fps streaming with built-in HDR-10 support. Dolby Atmos support is also a boon for anyone with an expensive home theater bristling with multi-positional speakers.

On the Amazon Alexa side of things, the device features an Alexa Voice Remote with full access to the Amazon Alexa AI assistant. Plus it will pair with Amazon Echo devices, allowing you to control the Fire TV via Echo.

Amazon has also added support for another optional accessory; an HD Antenna. Buying one of these and plugging it in will let you tune into cable TV, although it's a bit expensive at another $74.99.

The new Amazon Fire TV will be available from October 25.
