A huge Nokia Android Nougat tablet has been discovered; is this thing coming to market?

By now you've probably seen that Nokia is returning to the smartphone market in 2017 with new handsets based on Google's Android platform. Well according to a new snippet of info Nokia may also be gearing up to launch a new tablet as well. However, there is one key detail here that makes this all a bit cray-cray though - this tablet is MASSIVE - it's got an 18.4in measurement on the diagonal.

We can only speculate as to why Nokia might want to develop a tablet of this size, assuming it's not simply a case of it being a development/test/reference device which will never actually see the light of day outside of a Nokia development lab.

Anyway, the mega-slate showed up in a set of GFXBench benchmarking results, which gave away its considerable proportions and a 2650 x 1440 pixel QHD display resolution, as well as the fact that, like Nokia's new phones, it too is running Android 7.0 Nougat.

For other specs, it's shown using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 CPU clocked at 2.2GHz with an Adreno 540GPU onboard and 4GB RAM. Onboard storage is 64GB and it features Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and NFC connectivity, as well as 4G LTE; many of these would of course suggest that it is intended to be mobile and portable despite its collosal frame.

It's always a bit weird when tablets sport decent camera tech, but even weirder for a beast of this size to have a 12MP 4K video capable sensor on the front and another identical one on the back. Quite what Nokia is expecting people to do with this setup is beyond us at this point in time.

As we said, we think it's quite likely this is an internal development unit designed to test certain hardware and/or software and features, so don't get your hopes up too much for this monster hitting the market any time soon. That said, if we are proven wrong on this, we'll be extremely interested to see how Nokia pitches this unweildy slab to the masses. Naturally we'll bring you more info as we hear it.
