Well… that took awhile! Apple TV users will FINALLY get access to Amazon Prime Video

There have been reports of frost in hell…

In other news, Apple has officially confirmed that Apple TV will soon support Amazon’s Prime TV, meaning access to tons more shows and movies.

This update has been rumoured for a good long while, but it is now 100% official. Tim Cook said Amazon Prime TV for Apple TV will land later on this year, though he didn’t say why there was such a delay.

Why has Amazon Prime TV been missing from Apple TV up to now? Simple: Apple and Amazon don’t really get along in the VOD space, as they’re both competing with one another – though I’d wager Amazon does a lot better.

Apple has been attempting to build a niche for itself inside the VOD space for a good couple of years now. The company has been meeting with TV execs and film studios in a bid to pull together an amazing TV and movie package, or so the stories go… to date nothing has come of this.

Perhaps this is why Apple has given up the ghost and allowed one of its arch rivals into its walled garden? Maybe. Amazon’s still a petulant child about things though: search for Apple TV or Chromecast in Amazon and it’ll show you Fire TV Sticks and Roku devices.

Yeah. That’s not exactly kosher – especially from the world’s biggest retail portal.

Amazon claims the reason it doesn’t show Chromecast and Apple TV in its listings is because neither offer Amazon Video. Well, that’s no longer the case, so perhaps we will start to see Apple TV units popping up in there?

Or, if you're in the US...
