Comparing the Alcatel Pop 4 to the Alcatel Pixi 4; how do the specs and features stack up?

Alcatel seems to have a bit of a thing for twee naming conventions, between the two of them the Alcatel Pixi 4 (6) and Alcatel Pop 4 start sounding like the cast of a rebooted Teletubbies show. But I digress, what are these two phones like in terms of specs, features, and capabilities and, importantly, how do they compare with each other?

Read on to find out all the details...

As you can see, both handsets are broadly similar on the specs and hardware side of things. Each has the same quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, the same GPU, the same 1GB RAM, and the same 8GB of onboard storage. The Alcatel Pop 4 does have a distinct advantage though in that its microSD storage capabilities allow up to 256GB on cards, far exceeding the Pixi 4's 32GB cap.

The battery cells on both phones are similarly sized as well. Crucially, however, the Alcatel Pop 4 features a more up-to-date build of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, still not Android 7.0 Nougat, admittedly, but more recent than the Pixi 4's Android 5.1 Lollipop build and thus more fully featured.

Both handsets also have similar camera setups, although the Pixi 4 does allow video recording as high as 1080p while the Pop 4 can only achieve 720p.

Alcatel Pop 4 vs Alcatel Pixi 4: Design & Display

This is where there's a marked difference between the two devices. The Pixi 4 is a substantially larger 6in phablet, a full inch larger on the diagonal from the Pop 4's 5in display. They are both quite thin devices, however, and each uses the same IPS LCD display technology with an HD 720p resolution; this is slightly sharper on the smaller Pop 4 to the tune of 294 pixels-per-inch (ppi) versus the Pixi 4's 245ppi, but for most users this probably won't be too noticable.

Both phones have been designed with a certain degree of customisation in mind; there's echoes of Motorola and OnePlus here, as customers can choose a wide selection of back panels.

The smaller Pop 4 either comes with a white fascia and matte red back panel, or a black fascia and brushed metallic gold finish back panel - however, to customise further Alcatel has a range of back panel covers in everything from leather, to metal, to wood, and in a variety of colours.

The Pixi 4 has only one fascia option in black, and all the back panels have a soft touch matte finish, but the colour options here are wide-ranging, including more premium options like silver, grey, white, gold, and rose gold, and then bright playful stuff such as lime green, yellow, red, magenta, and cyan.
